BOTOX and DYSPORT
Aging and using certain muscles to make facial expressions causes wrinkles, folds, and fine lines on our faces. Lucky for us, we have the magic of Botox and Dysport, which are prescription neuromodulators that relax muscles, allowing skin time to heal and diminish or completely erase unwanted wrinkles.
Neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport work by safely blocking certain chemical signals from nerves that cause muscles to contract. Botox and Dysport only take minutes to inject, and results last up to approximately 3 months. After that, maintenance treatments are recommended to keep wrinkles and folds from returning. Treatments should be done at least 90 days apart.
If you have mild to severe facial wrinkles, are in good health, and have no preexisting skin conditions, you are a good candidate for Botox or Dysport treatments. These treatments are not indicated for people who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

BOTOX
When in the hands of a skilled injector, Botox is incredibly safe and effective not only for diminishing facial wrinkles, lines, and folds, but for a multitude of uses. Here are several of Botox’s additional uses:
Botox for teeth grinding/facial slimming: Botox can be injected into the master muscles, (which are responsible for chewing and grinding), blocking nerve signals to relax and limit its movement. You will still be able to move your jaw to chew, talk, and make normal facial expressions, but people see a marked improvement in symptoms from teeth grinding, such as jaw pain and tension headaches. There may also be a slimming effect to the face as the muscles relax, resulting in a more contoured appearance.
Botox for upper shoulder pain/neck slimming: Botox can be injected in the trapezius/neck muscles to provide relief to those experiencing muscle tightness, pain, or stress. Many people suffering from tension headaches in the back of the skull will experience amazing relief from these injections as well. Relaxing these muscles can also have a slimming effect to the shoulders and neck.
Botox for hyperhydrosis: Hyperhydrosis is excessive sweating with no apparent underlying cause, causing moisture to drip from hands, underarms, feet, and face. Botox injected into these areas blocks the nerve signals responsible for sweating, stopping overactive sweat glands. This is revolutionary, FDA-approved treatment for excessive sweating improves the quality of life for many patients.=
Botox for facial asymmetry: For those who may have a crooked smile, uneven eyes/brows, nasal flaring, or a “gummy smile,” botox can be skillfully injected to correct unwanted expressions and provide a more symmetrical, balanced face.

Like Botox, Dysport is a prescription injection made with Botulinum Type A as an active ingredient that reduces wrinkles, fine lines, or folds in the face.
Dysport’s specialty is to minimize the look of minor folds and wrinkles between the eyes and on the forehead. Dysport is very safe, and after extensive testing, the FDA approved Dysport in 2009 for the 11s (lines between the eyebrows), giving us more options for neuromodulator treatments.
Dysport spreads from the treatment area much quicker than its companion neuromodulator, Botox. This spreading means that Dysport can treat a broader area of wrinkles with fewer injections. In addition, Botox and Dysport have different concentration levels. However, Dysport could potentially spread to muscles you do not need to relax, but your professional injector will take measures to avoid this. Some patients prefer one neuromodulator over the other and we are happy to discuss your options at your appointment!

FAQ
Will Botox/Dysport “freeze” my face and make me look fake?
Botox and Dysport are technique- and dose-sensitive treatments. When you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained, and a medical expert in facial anatomy, you can achieve subtle results. So you’ll look like yourself—only with less noticeable lines. No one should be able to tell you’ve had anything done.
Will I see results immediately and how long do they last?
Results vary from person to person, but typically we see results around 2 weeks and they last about 3-4 months. We recommend treatments every 90 days (3 months) to maintain results. Severely etched/deep lines may require multiple treatments and treatment modalities to achieve desired results.
Do I need to wait until my lines are bad or until I’m over 40 to start Botox/Dysport?
Whenever your lines start bothering you is the right time to start a neuromodulator. More and more people are starting injections in their early 30’s to prevent severely etched or “static” lines, also known as preventative Botox. Many factors influence how we age and the appearance of lines, so there is no specific time or age to start. Cheeky does not inject anybody under the age of 18.
How many units does it take to treat the face or a specific area?
Botox and Dysport are prescription medications and just like any other prescription, your provider will assess and recommend your dosage based on your individual anatomy and muscle strength. While there are standard guidelines for treating specific areas, each person is different—what may be an appropriate dose for one person may not be the same for another. After a thorough assessment, your provider will determine what will be your best treatment plan.
Will the injections hurt and will people know I’ve been injected?
Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but we use a tiny needle and inject a very small amount of medication into the muscles. After your consult, actual treatment time is very quick and discomfort goes away immediately. There is always a small risk of bruising, but most people can return to work, social events, etc, right after their appointment. Still worried/anxious about discomfort? Check out our comfort options.
Is it ok to just get a little bit of Botox/Dysport more frequently?
It is best practice to receive a full, recommended dose of neuromodulator every 90+ days to achieve full, long-lasting results and minimize the risk of developing antibodies to the toxin. We would rather have you save your money for a full treatment than skimp on dosage and not achieve desired results!
What are some of the side effects/risks of Botox/Dysport?
In clinical studies of Botox, three percent of patients experienced eyelid drooping in the frown lines studies, one percent of patients experienced eyelid swelling in the crow’s feet studies, and one percent of patients experienced brow drooping in the forehead lines studies. Cheeky providers are highly trained and receive ongoing education to avoid serious side effects and risks. Other possible side effects include dry mouth; discomfort or pain at the injection site; tiredness; headache; neck pain; eye problems: double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight, and dry eyes; and allergic reactions.
